
BASIC FUNCTION:
The Early Childhood Educator community worker, under the direction of the Program Director and Executive Director is responsible for planning and imparting meaningful instruction and activities to pre-school age pupils in Padres Unidos Educational Modules. The Early Childhood Educator must utilize appropriate early child hood activities, knowledge, and instruction curriculum for program delivery. In the classroom, Early Childhood Educator is responsible for supporting the other educators in the success of their role by maintain ongoing communication and planning. We are looking for someone self-motivated and caring willing to work within a non-hierarchical learning paradigm. The Early Childhood Educator strengthens the community by developing satisfactory professional relationships with staff, volunteers, collaborating agencies, parents and children.
DUTIES:
- Perform related functions needed to the successful integration of the new skills in to the students’ daily lives and school readiness.
- Work with the team and coordinator/director on the ongoing planning and evaluating of the individualized and group instruction.
- Follow the instruction curriculum.
- With an assessment tool, conduct an assessment of each child’s development
- Identify and carry out goals in conjunction with other facilitators, parents and coordinator/director in response to a child’s assessment results
- Maintain a holistic approach between class activities, curriculum, and the students daily family life
- Uphold principles of the family parenting program and develop lesson plans and activities corresponding to it with planning team
- Maintain a learning conducive environment in which safety and growth is fostered
- Report any concerns to the site coordinator
- Leave the teaching and preparation room neat and clean, preventing others from using materials and/or equipment not authorized
- Make weekly report to discuss student progress and encourage continued attendance
- Meet with the volunteers who teach classes to the family’s older children and parents
- Apply CPR and/or first aid assistance if needed
- Participate in individual or small group planning/evaluating meetings with staff and coordinator
- Prepare materials needed to the successful delivery of lesson plans
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
- Sustain positive effective relationships between pupil’s parents, volunteers and staff
- Knowledge and ability to deal effectively with children of different maturity levels and needs of 0 to 5 years-old
- Observe and understand individual, groups, and family needs and dynamics
- Develop lesson plans independently or with other staff
- Deliver age appropriate activities
- Facilitate family integration during conjoint family time
- Perform simple clerical tasks directly related to the delivery of instruction
- Speak fluent Spanish/English desired
- Comply with program time frames, deadlines, rules and regulations

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
EDUCATION
Option 1.
- A combination of:
- A completion certification of a Padres Unidos/Healthy Tomorrows parenting program and
- A one year volunteer training program (can be substituted by 5 years or more of a community work supervised experience),
- and a Community Worker paraprofessional two year program award (can be current enrollment).
Option 2.
- A combination of:
- A completion certification of a Padres Unidos/Healthy Tomorrows parenting program and,
- A combination of a one year volunteer training and one year of supervised volunteer work in the community,
- and a Baccalaureate in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology or related fields.
EXPERIENCE
The Early Childhood Educator is recruited from local areas to ensure that Padres Unidos classes reflect the values, culture, language and strengths of the families served in our community. In addition, knowledge about child abuse, juvenile delinquency, group dynamics, family systems, child development and local resources required. Bilingual/bicultural required with fluency in Spanish. English fluency, if candidate is not an English speaker to maintain employment must provide every month a minimum of four records of completed lessons from www.usalearns.org or get approval for an alternative action plan to learn English and provide proof of completion. Strength in Team work and sound judgment required.
